Spituk Gompa: A Complete Guide
Spituk Gompa, founded in the 11th century by Od-de, is a Gelugpa monastery perched on a hill 8 km from Leh. It houses a statue of the fierce deity Mahakal, unveiled only during the annual Spituk Gustor festival in January.
Timings: 8:00 AM to 6:00 PM. Free entry; a small donation is appreciated.
How to reach: A 20-minute drive from Leh on the way to the airport, or a scenic uphill walk from Spituk village.
