Ajanta Caves: Key Highlights

The Ajanta Caves are 30 Buddhist caves dating from 200 BCE to 650 CE, famous for their stunning murals and paintings depicting the Jataka tales. Unlike Ellora which focuses on architecture, Ajanta is celebrated for its exquisite frescoes and sculptures.

How to Reach

The nearest city is Aurangabad (Maharashtra). Ellora Caves are 30 km from Aurangabad (45 minutes). Ajanta Caves are 100 km from Aurangabad (2.5 hours). Flights to Aurangabad from Mumbai, Delhi, and Hyderabad. Both can be covered in a 2-day trip.

Ellora Caves & Ajanta Caves: ₹40 for Indians, ₹600 for foreigners. Free entry for children under 15. Online tickets available through the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) website or at the ticket counter.
