The Amarnath Yatra is one of the most sacred Hindu pilgrimages, taking devotees to the holy cave shrine of Lord Shiva at 3,888 meters in the Himalayas. This guide covers everything you need to plan your journey.

Amarnath Yatra 2026 Dates (Expected)

The yatra typically starts in late June/early July and runs until August/September (Shravan Purnima). Exact dates are announced by the Shri Amarnath Shrine Board (SASB) in April each year.

Registration Process

Registration is mandatory. Visit the SASB official website, fill the application form, upload required documents (medical certificate, photo ID), and select your route and helicopter option. Registration fee is approximately ₹500 per person.

Amarnath Yatra Routes

• Pahalgam Route (48 km): Traditional route, takes 4-5 days on foot. Suitable for all age groups. Pony and palanquin services available.
• Baltal Route (16 km): Shorter but steeper route, takes 1-2 days. More challenging. Helicopter service available for both routes.

Helicopter Booking for Amarnath Yatra

Helicopter services are available from Pahalgam to Panjtarni (near the cave) and from Baltal to the cave. Book through the SASB portal or authorized operators. Prices range from ₹2,500 to ₹6,000 per person one way depending on route.
